The pandemic brought about significant changes to our Confirmation I and II programs—and, to our surprise, much of it turned out to be for the better.
Teens, parents, and Small Group Leaders alike embraced the new format. Many teens shared that they felt they learned more and appreciated the flexibility of working through the lessons at their own pace during the week.
Parents found the experience meaningful as well. Partnering with their teens on the lessons created valuable opportunities for bonding, offered a helpful refresher, and sometimes even taught them something new.
Small Group Leaders connected with teens through Google Classroom, where the students’ personal reflections gave leaders a deeper understanding of each teen’s heart—something not always possible in a traditional classroom setting.
And finally, shifting away from a strictly Sunday in-person schedule helped us avoid many of the conflicts with travel sports and other weekend commitments.
Because of these many benefits, we’ve decided to continue with a primarily online, parent-led Confirmation model.
Program Overview
Confirmation I begins each February
Confirmation II begins each August
Both programs include:
12–13 weeks of online lessons
1 Zoom Parent & Teen Meeting
1 Zoom Safe Environment Meeting
3 in-person sessions
1 Retreat
How It Works:
Lessons are completed in Google Classroom
Small Group Leaders “grade” submissions weekly using answer sheets I provide
My goal is to have 5–6 adults per small group to lighten the load
In-person sessions are held 3:15 – 4:30 PM in the parish hall, and retreats take place on the St. Peter campus.
Small Group Leaders serve in various ways: some monitor Google Classroom behind the scenes, others lead small group discussions during in-person sessions, and many do both—sharing their time, gifts, and faith.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and continued support of this vital ministry.
